Home sweet home

Searching for a home has got B and I talking about what we want our future home to look like.  While my style is more eclectic, B has a very minimalist style with a focus on the masculine...cowhide rugs, roaring fires, lots of wood, and no, I repeat NO throw pillows haha.  The thought of building a home together is so exciting.  I can't wait to see what it will look like! :)

Lovely cowhide rug.

I am determined to have a bright white kitchen at least one time in my life! With poured concrete counters of course.

B and I have both agreed that a farmhouse sink is a must.

How lovely is this reclaimed wood table?  B and I are convinced that we'll be able to make our own.  Such dreamers haha.

B has several demands that he just won't budge on.  #1 any and all staircases must be spiral.

#2 Fireplaces must be excessively large, stone and wood burning.

#3 Indoor fruit trees are a must. I'm going to have a tough time convincing him that some plants are just eye candy as he believes anything worth growing must be edible.

Cozy Cable Knits

Well our stint of warm spring-like weather seems to be over and done with for now which makes me want to do nothing more than curl up in some warm pjs with a hot cup of coffee and a soft blanket.  A few months ago I was on the hunt for just such a blanket and became OBSESSED with loose cable knit throws!  I searched high and low to find the one I had in my head to no avail (don't you hate that).  While strolling through Macy's I stumbled upon just the one I had been searching for....AND it was marked own 75% I might add.

Mine is a wonderful taupe color.

Here are some other lovely cable knit throws that I might have to have once I own more than a bedroom :)

New digs = new furniture

The weekend is finally here and instead of doing the homework that has been piling up all week I have spent the majority of the morning oogling sofa tables, consoles, and sideboards.  As I said before, house hunting has resulted in me being bitten by the "want to get rid of everything I own and start fresh" design bug.  Though I do have a few pieces that I truly love, such as my vintage, rod iron sewing machine desk, the majority of my furniture is of the hand-me-down, Craigslist, garage sale variety....and most of it is rod iron and wicker...yuck!  I have one particulary hideous sofa table that, despite it's functionality, must go.  I began my hunt with shabby chic sofa tables and quickly learned of all the spectacular and storage friendly sideboards and consoles that are out there!  Sideboards don't just have to be in the kitchen, right??  Below are a few that I have stumbled upon so far.  Though many, if not all are out of my price range I am hoping to find similar looks at thrift or knock-off stores.

Lots and lots of drawers for storage!

I love the salvaged wood on this sideboard.

A little too French Country for me but I like the idea.

Not as much storage as I would like but I LOVE the thick carved legs!

I love the awkward, upside down look of the legs.

I'm definitely not lovin the form of this table but may steal the idea of bold, painted drawers...so unexpected!

Here's to happy hunting!

Movin on up!

Happy Friday! This week has been a whirl-wind! After much deliberation, stress, mind-changing, and prayer, it turns out I will be moving. God is quite clear when he wants to be. My parents have to tear down my humble little abode because SOMEBODY called the city on them (apparently having a studio in your garage is a no no). So, I am now in the process of finding a nice little house to rent + a roommate to rent it with. Terrifying but exciting at the same time. Kinda makes me want to curl up in a cozy little corner and forget about all the packing, house shopping, and moving I'll have to do. Like this one....

With one of these.....

And these....

Have a lovely, stress-free weekend!

Grey Days

Perhaps it's the damp and dreary weather lately, but I just can't seem to get enough of grey walls. I am once again wrestling with the idea of buying a house and have started to look, albeit casually, for a little place to maybe, just maybe call my own. Home shopping, for me at least, always gets the creative juices going and sends me spiraling off into the great interior decorating unknown. I think I may have to have at least one grey room in my (hopefully near) future home. Below are a few images from around the web that particularly inspired me. I especially like the pops of vibrant red in the room below and dream of adding some rich dark woods and soft fur blankets to drape over the bed.....

F is for Felt...and Fun

How sweet is this felted bear skin?! B always talks about wanting to lounge out by a roaring fire on a bear skin rug. Perhaps this will do for now.

Hope you all have a blessed week!

Over the Hill and Under Control

In 7.5 days I will officially step off the top of the hill (i.e. 25) and begin my slow roll down to my 30s, 40s, yikes! 50s....! I must confess I was NOT happy to reach the top of said hill and had quite a hard time dealing with the fact that I was, at least, a quarter of my way through this life. However, surprisingly, 26...not so bad. Perhaps it is because my mental state is so much better than it was a year ago. I've made an effort to find outlets for my craziness, refuse to let my genetic oversensitivity (thanks Mom!) take over, and try to remember my purpose in this life (to serve the Lord). Or perhaps I've just come to terms with the fact that I will get old and maybe, just maybe my genetics (thanks again Mom!) will hold up and I won't look like an overwashed bag of skin. Now the real question that remains is what to get myself for my bday :) A few ideas....

Proenza Schouler Boots (or a similar pair that wont run me $700)

A super sweet backpack for B's and my next trip to Russian River

A quaint little 2 bed 1 bath with white washed wood floors and plenty of natural light

Maybe in my dreams... :)
